Juan Martín del Potro (born 23rd September, 1988, in Tandil, Argentina) is the former US Open champion – beating Federer in 2009 in a memorable 5-set match. Other highlights in 2009 included a runner-up at the ATP World Tour Masters Cup at the O2. 2010 has been a different story with a 8 month lay-off due to a wrist injury. This forced him out of returning to Flushing Meadows to try and retain his title.
